Join us for a Sunday Screening of I Believe I'll Go Back Home: Robert Johnson's Copiah County Roots and Living Legacy at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 8, in the Craig H. Neilsen Auditorium of the Two Mississippi Museums. Directed and produced by Samantha Davidson Green, the 28-minute film documents the roots and legacy of blues artist Robert Johnson through stories from his family. The program also will feature remarks by Green and co-producer Antonio Tarrell as well as musical performances by Robert Johnson’s grandson, Steven Johnson, and Mississippi-based guitarist Brian Ballou. Admission to the Two Mississippi Museums is free every Sunday. For more information, call 601-576-6850 or email info@mdah.ms.gov.
Join us Tuesday, September 16, at 11 a.m. in the Museum of Mississippi History for a gallery talk on the Swan Lake Canoe. Discovered in 1989 on the banks of Swan Lake in Washington County, this remarkable dugout canoe highlights the skill and creativity of Native American makers. Former collections registrar Jo Miles-Seely and conservation director Katie Etre will talk about how the canoe was found, what it tells us, and how it’s been preserved.
