History Is Lunch: Robert Colby, "Slave Trading in the Civil War South"

At noon on Wednesday, April 15, Robert Colby, assistant professor of history at the University of Mississippi, will discuss the intersections of slavery, capitalism, the Civil War, and emancipation as part of the History Is Lunch series. Colby’s book, An Unholy Traffic: Slave Trading in the Civil War South, explores the place of the peculiar institution in the Confederate mind, the ways in which it underpinned the CSA’s war effort, and its impact on those attempting to seize their freedom. This free America250 event will be held in the Craig H. Neilsen Auditorium of the Two Mississippi Museums in Jackson and will stream live on the MDAH Facebook page and YouTube channel.
