Celebrate Hezekiah Watkins' birthday at the Two Mississippi Museums on Sunday, September 1. On this free admission day, Watkins will share his experience during the Mississippi Civil Rights Movement at noon, 1:30 p.m., and 3 p.m. in the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum. Copies of Watkins' Pushing Forward: The Story of Mississippi's Youngest Freedom Rider and t-shirts will be available for purchase with a book signing available. At noon Wednesday, October 22, Jay Wesley, author of Choctaw Traditions: Stories of the Life and Customs of the Mississippi Choctaw, and Eddie Johnson, a tribal member of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians, will discuss a collection of stories from all nine Choctaw communities that captures the rich detail and complexity of Choctaw life as part of the History Is Lunch series.
