A Temporary Exhibit at the Two Mississippi Museums
March 8, 2025 – November 7, 2025
Hurricane Katrina’s 125-mph winds and 30-foot storm surge barreled across the Mississippi Gulf Coast on August 29, 2005, leaving a swath of devastation. Vicksburg photographer Melody Golding captured not only the storm’s ravages, but also the resilience of the people forced to rebuild their lives.
On the 20th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, Golding’s photographs, along with artifacts from the Mississippi Department of Archives and History, tell the story of Mississippians’ determination to rise out of chaos to rebuild, recover and thrive.
