In honor of Medgar Evers’ birthday, the Two Mississippi Museums will be free to the public thanks to the Foundation for the Mid South. Education staff from the Two Mississippi Museums will host flash tours at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Evers was a key civil rights activist and the first Mississippi field secretary for the National Association for the Advancement for Colored People. At noon on Wednesday, May 20, Jeff Giambrone, historian at the Mississippi Department of Archives and History, will discuss Civil War firearms and artillery used by both Union and Confederate soldiers as part of the History Is Lunch series. Giambrone will share firsthand accounts from soldiers on both sides during the siege of Vicksburg.
