Inspired by the freedom schools of 1964, campers will deepen their understanding of the Mississippi Civil Rights Movement and its impact on the world as they learn the stories of local heroes in their communities. Students will also visit historic Jackson-based historic sites such as the Medgar and Myrlie Evers Home National Monument, the COFO Civil Rights Education Center, and Tougaloo College. Registration is $150 for the two-week camp and includes lunch and two snacks each day.
The July 7–18 session is geared towards rising sixth, seventh, and eigth graders. Space is limited to twenty-five campers. Register here. For more information, contact Jasmine Holmes, MDAH education and outreach manager, at 601-576-6773 or at jholmes@mdah.ms.gov.
