Discovery Day: Art History

Join us on Saturday, June 6, for Discovery Day: Art History, a free family-friendly event highlighting the many forms of artistic expression found across Mississippi and how they shaped the state’s cultural story through a multimedia presentation, hands-on crafts, and a flash tour of the Mississippi Made exhibit. Beginning at 11 a.m., this exciting day is specially designed for fourth through eighth grade students and their families at the Two Mississippi Museums. At noon on Wednesday, May 13, Josh Foreman, journalism professor at Mississippi State University, and Ryan Starrett, teacher at St. Joseph Catholic School, will explore the rise and fall of John Blommart during the American Revolution as part of the History Is Lunch series. John Blommart, a Royal Navy captain, led a failed rebellion against Spanish rule at Mount Locust in Natchez.

Join us for a free event featuring a screening of The Whiskey Speech: Soggy Sweat and the Power of Storytelling at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 17, in the Craig H. Neilsen Auditorium at the Two Mississippi Museums. Judge Noah S. “Soggy” Sweat first delivered “The Whiskey Speech” at the King Edward Hotel in Jackson in 1952.
