At noon on Wednesday, January 28, professor Charles Dew from Williams College will examine the central role that Mississippi played in the secessionist movement leading up to the Civil War as part of the History Is Lunch series. Dew’s book, Apostles of Disunion: Southern Secession Commissioners and the Causes of the Civil War, highlights speeches and letters by state-appointed commissioners that rally support for disunion. This program will take place in the Craig H. Neilsen Auditorium of the Two Mississippi Museums and will stream live on the MDAH Facebook page and YouTube channel. Copies of Apostles of Disunion will be available for purchase, and a book signing will follow. For more information, call 601-576-6850 or email info@mdah.ms.gov.
